What will be the role of SOMP Mentor in Mains mentorship?
1. Scheduling, Planning and Execution of the overall plan, sub-plan
2. Motivational and Psychological support, at all times. Along with some constructive beating if required, so that you don’t become complacent.
3. Fortnightly performance review. Many students struggle here and keep moving aimlessly in the time domain.
4. Balancing the preparation. The most crucial part of the entire preparation. Most of the students lose the game here and move aimlessly in the space domain.
A student needs to understand that he’s not bad at GS1 or GS4 or Optional,but rather in managing the 9 papers, and that too according to the present trend.
Balancing the preparation is a science and an art, which needs to be communicated and reinforced.
In UPSC, you need a bird’s eye view of the preparation, rather than a microscopic one.
5. Evaluation and Discussion of one paper of each GS1,2,3,4 and Essay.
Role of Mentee:
1. Being sincere, diligent and hardworking
2. Having Faith on the Mentor ( unless you are absolutely sure that your Mentor is not right)
3. Maintaining 2-way communication. Don’t break the communication and then complain later. Let the mentor know what issues you are facing.
4. Understanding that despite everything, mentee has to play the game. The mentor cannot do it on your behalf. The role of Mentee: Mentor is 90:10. If someone is telling you otherwise, they are lying
5. Try not making it a transactional relationship, rather make it a Mentor- Mentee Relationship
